** Project Tiger Pride Set for Saturday **Return to event list.
Beardstown, Il – The community organized, massive landscaping project under the leadership of the Project Tiger Pride committee is set to kickoff at 8 a.m., Saturday, April 21. This one-day event is the first of proposed annual projects for community beautification. It is a community accomplishing an extensive program, BY the community and FOR the community. Sunday is Earth Day and the 27th is Arbor Day. This project combines all of those elements in a program designed to unify community organizations with students.
Who: Community of Beardstown and students
What: Major landscaping and beautification project to plant over 100 shade, ornamental and evergreen trees, plus shrubs and flower beds – all in one day! All volunteers with donated funds and landscaping products.
When: Saturday, April 21, 2012. 8 a.m. meet – 9 a.m. begin project.
Where: Meeting at the east side parking lot at 8 a.m., in front of the giant flag. Brief announcements and acknowledgements in the gym.
Background: After some brief words and recognition of significant participants in the project, we will split up into designated teams (15 teams, with 12-15 on each team) and complete the landscaping in designated areas. Holes for trees will be pre-dug, with trees and landscaping materials in place. Each team will be paired with students from the school, with the emphasis on the students actually doing the plantings.
This is a community project, BY the community, For the community. The intent is to give the students an opportunity to take "ownership" of the landscaping and thus, instill pride in the school and the community.
Church groups, Elks, Lion's Club, Kiwanis, CassComm and many others will be providing teams. We have a 10 year-old who has formed a family and neighborhood Team to participate. We hope to have 300 or more participants. If the weather cooperates, it should be a fun event with an outcome that all of us in the community can enjoy for decades to come
Please come join us! This is a “feel good” story about a community coming together for something very Positive.
