On September 22, 2012, Teddy Bear Christian Child Development Center is hosting a 5K Race/1 Mile Walk to benefit The Autism Program at the Hope Institute. The 5K Race and 1 Mile walk will start and end in the Field of Dreams, 1200 Riverton Road, Riverton, IL. Cost to participate in the 5K Race or 1 Mile Walk is $20 per person if you pre-register and includes a T-shirt for all participants. Registration the day of the event will open at 7 am and cost to register the day of the event is $25. The 5K Race and 1 Mile walk will begin at 9 am and will be held rain or shine.
Return to event list.Autism is a disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior. The diagnostic criteria require that symptoms become apparent before a child is three years old. Autism affects information processing in the brain by altering how nerve cells and their synapses connect and organize; how this occurs is not well understood. Experts estimate that 1 out of 88 children age 8 will have an Autism Spectrum Disorder (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, March 30, 2012). Males are four times more likely to have an ASD than females. Registration forms are available by calling 217-629-8030. Together we can raise funds to support the Autism Program at the Hope Institute and “Together we can solve the puzzle.” |
