Central Illinois has never seen a better time to start keeping bees than right now! The Sangamon Valley Beekeepers Association (SVBA) is hosting their 4th Annual Beginning Beekeeping class. All instructors are experienced beekeepers from central Illinois.Return to event list.
The class meets one night a week for 6 weeks. The class begins on Thursday February 7th, 2013 and meets subsequent Thursday evenings from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Meeting location is Decatur Christian School, 137 South Grant Street Forsyth, IL 62535.
This class is designed for individuals who are interested in becoming a beekeeper, have an interest in honeybees, or are considering beekeeping as a means to improve pollination in their flower/vegetable gardens or fruit tree orchards. This beekeeping course describes life inside a honey bee colony, introduces students to hive components, develops hands-on experience with hive component assembly, explains how to start and manage your own colony, prepares the student with an understanding of mistakes and maladies with which beekeepers must deal, and offers both an annual membership to the association and a year-long mentoring relationship for beginning beekeepers.
Registration fee is $75.00 and includes all required course materials. Checks should be made out to SVBA and mailed to SVBA 2546 S Baltimore Ave, Decatur IL, 62521.
