Return to event list. The Sigma Beta Club is a youth mentoring initiative of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated which was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. on January 9, 1914, by three young African-American male students. The founders, Honorable A. Langston Taylor, Honorable Leonard F. Morse, and Honorable Charles I Brown, wanted to organize a Greek letter fraternity that would truly exemplify the ideals of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service. The Springfield Sigma Beta Club is comprised of young men in the 5th thru the 12 grades. The evening events include a dinner with speeches and a “step show” by the participants. Bro. Jonathan A. Mason, Sr., International First Vice President of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. will be the keynote speaker. As a member of the General Board and strong supporter of the Sigma Beta Club, Bro. Mason was delighted to accept the invitation with no hesitation. We are excited to have him here in Central IL. The Sigma Beta Club’s 4 major principles of focus are on Culture, Athletics, Social and Educational needs. The Sigma Beta Club offers a unique opportunity to develop values, leadership skills and social/cultural awareness in our youth during their developmental years. Sigma Beta Club programs are geared to meet the needs of its members, but at the same time provide them with a well-rounded outlook that is needed to be successful in today’s society. Eta Psi Sigma Springfield Alumni chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Incorporated is confident that investing in our youth today will produce the effective leaders of tomorrow. |
