10,000 Steps A Day: You Can Do It!

Springfield Moms reader Sandra Douglas emailed in to share how her church formed a walk group and a think tank to brainstorm how to increase their steps to reach 10,000 steps a day.  Here's what they come up with:
  • Put on your pedometer as soon as you wake; don't leave home without it.

  • While at work, print your documents to the printer that will give you the most steps.

  • Walk in place to a favorite song. The time goes by quickly and before you know it, you have added many steps to the pedometer.

  • Park farther than you normally do. Do not circle the parking lot for the closest parking spot. By the time you reach the store door, you have saved time, gas and increased your steps.

  • Take the stairs when possible to increase your steps on the pedometer.

  • Walk and talk with friends. Before you know it, you have increased your daily steps.
