Free Ice Skating Clinic

By SpringfieldMoms.org

The Springfield Figure Skating Club will host a special event on January 8, 2011 as part of U.S. Figure Skating’s National Skating Month in the months of January and February. The event will be located at the Franklin P. Nelson Center Ice Rink at Lincoln Park in Springfield from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m., followed by a free public ice skating session for participants from 11:30—1:30 p.m.

As part of the Jan. 8 activities, participants will receive a free 30-minute skating lesson from professional skating coaches, as well as view a 15-minute demonstration and exhibition from skaters of various skill levels.

Refreshments, games and prizes will be provided, along with a drawing for a free 12-week Learn to Skate Session from the Nelson Center. Drawings for prizes will also be held for anyone registering for the next Learn to Skate Sessions with the Springfield Park District. A free public skate will follow the event from 11:30 until 1:30 p.m.

National Skating Month, now in its 10th year, allows U.S. Figure Skating member clubs and Basic Skills programs to reach out to new members in their communities by offering the fundamentals of ice skating from professionally trained instructors. The goal of National Skating Month is to increase awareness and participation in the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program.
