Baby apps on everything from pregnancy to entertaining toddlers

By SpringfieldMoms.org

A little e-search into this topic and you’ll soon discover that when it comes to all things baby, “there’s an app for that.” To help you navigate the endless sea of smart phone applications, here are a few worthy of a closer look to get you started.

Pregnancy Apps

My Pregnancy Today: From the folks who bring you BabyCenter.com, this mobile app features daily updates on the development of your little one including illustrations, pregnancy and nutrition tips, a due date countdown and more. Find out when your baby’s tiny little toes develop while waiting in line at the grocery store! What to Expect offers a similar app.

Contraction Timer Deluxe: No more watching the clock and timing and recording those at-home contractions. Use this app to quickly and easily record contractions to track duration and intervals.

RunPee: (Just had to throw this one in!) With the frequency of bathroom breaks during those 9 months, this app lets you know when there is lull in your movie and suggests ideal times to run to the bathroom without missing crucial plot points.

Infant Apps

White Noise – by TMSOFT. Reportedly the best white noise app available, choose from 40 ambient sounds to create the best the womb-mimicking atmosphere for your little one. As a white-noise believer, here’s my offer of an app that just might score you that extra, precious hour of baby sleep.

Total Baby: A complete baby data tracker, this app allows parents to quickly track baby’s daily feedings, diapers, sleep, baths, medicine, temperatures, as well as milestones, doctor visits, height and weight, and vaccines. Super useful for going back a year later and filling in the baby book. But, mommy be warned, don’t let that newborn data tracking drive you to insanity!

Baby Monitor: True to its name, you can leave your phone in the room with your little one, and it will call you on another phone when the baby wakes. This app records the night noises and lets you review the activity log later. You can even set it to play back any song from your mp3 player or your own voice to soothe your little one back to sleep. The obvious downside is that you will be without your phone, but it could come through in a pinch away from home.

Older Baby / Toddler Apps

Keep your little one quiet in the car, a plane, a waiting room or a line with these fun toddler-level apps.

Elmo’s Monster Maker:  I’ve never met a toddler who didn’t light up at the sight of Elmo. Your little one can choose the eyes, nose, ears, face of his very own monster, and Elmo will sing and dance with him. Most reviews say this one is worth every penny of its $3.99 price tag.

Duck Duck Moose Songs: These attractive, interactive sing-alongs will entertain and teach your child such preschool classics as the Wheels on the Bus, Old MacDonald, The Itsy Bitsy Spider, Baa Baa Black Sheep and more!

Learn to Talk: Great flashcard style pictures in a natural progression of child language development to help stimulate vocabulary in your little one.
