Games, craft and food ideas for 2011 fall and Halloween classroom parties

By SpringfieldMoms.org

Didn't we just put away the Valentines Day decorations? With Halloween on the horizon, my kids and yours are looking forward to classroom parties at the end of the month.  Check out Springfield Moms contributor Lauren Coleman's ideas below.

Here are a few fun ideas I “trick or treated” for from various websites.

Games

Pass the Pumpkin: Have students gather in a circle. Pass a small pumpkin gourd around the circle with music playing. Try and find some classics like "Monster Mash" or "Ghostbusters" or "The Addams Family theme." When the music stops the child with the pumpkin is out. Continue until there is only one person left.

Eyeball Relay: Have students get into teams of 4 or 5. Have teams participate in a relay race where they need to carry the “eyeball” on the spoon. Team members must pass off the eyeball onto the spoons without using their hands. Materials needed: Ping Pong balls with an eye drawn on them. Plastic Spoons.

Mummy Wraps: This is an oldie but a goody! In teams of 4, have the students wrap one teams member up as a Mummy. First team to finish wins. Materials: Rolls of Toilet Paper.

Guess How Many Candy Corns? Fill a jar with candy corn. Make sure to count how many pieces you put in. Children take turns guessing how many pieces are in the jar. The student with the closest guess gets the jar. Materials: Candy Corn. Jar.

Food

Check to see if your school lets you bring in homemade food. Also ask if there are any allergies you need to be aware of.

Witches Hats: Take a package of Keebler Fudge Striped Cookies. Turn them over so all you see is the chocolate side. On top of the cookies place orange icing around the center circle. Stick a Hershey Kiss on top for a cute little witch hat.

Caramel Apple: Slice the apples ahead of time and put the caramel dip into individual cups.
Pumpkin Popcorn Balls: 1 1/4 sticks butter. 1 bag sm. marshmallows. 1 tsp. vanilla. Orange Food coloring (your own judgment on amount). Pop 3 large pans of popcorn. Melt the above, stir while melting. When mixture is smooth, pour and mix into popcorn.  Put butter or small plastic bag over your hands to form the popcorn balls. Work as fast as you can. Reshape or squeeze each popcorn ball. Popcorn balls stay pretty soft.

Craft

Q-tip Skeletons.  On black construction have students use a white crayon and draw a skeleton head. Use different sizes of Q-tips that have been cut to create the body of the skeleton. Glue on to the paper.
