Tyler Perry Buys Army Base

Updated: Sunday, August 10 2014, 09:51 PM CDT

The city of Atlanta has given director Tyler Perry the green light to build a studio at a former army base Fort McPherson.

Perry is spending 30 million dollars to buy the land and a hundred-million dollars to expand his current studio space.

Atlanta's mayor sees this as a job creation opportunity, but some residents are skeptical. Perry says his studio will be not be a distraction for people living in the area.

"I think that is probably a myth of what the studio is, because studios are really low-key and quiet, and I think everybody over at Greenbriar can tell you, we've been great neighbors." said Perry.

Perry's movie studio will take over nearly three-quarters of the army post that the government closed three years ago.
