American Diabetes Association Hosts Kiss-A-Pig Gala

Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- It was all about raising money for the Central Illinois Chapter of the American Diabetes Association Friday night, but the way funds were raised is what grabbed attention.

The 15th annual Kiss-A-Pig Aala is an exclusive event to the ADA. Candidates are asked to raise votes for their campaign. Each vote is equal is one dollar and the candidate with the most money raised gets to kiss a live pig.

Event organizers say the pig is actually related to diabetes treatment.

"We kiss a pig because insulin first arrived from a pig pancreas. So we are just thanking the piggy for his many sacrifices. We are doing research and sending kids to camp and of course programs for the 30 counties we serve in central illinois."

The Kiss-A-Pig Gala hoped to raise $150,000 this year. This is the largest fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association.American Diabetes Association Hosts Kiss-A-Pig Gala
