Hepatitis A Scare at Restaurant in Missouri

Updated:
MISSOURI -- A scare in Missouri after health department officials in the Springfield/Greene County district warn those who may have eaten at an area restaurant.

Officials  say a food service worker may have exposed thousands of customers to Hepatitis A.  Officials issued the public health alert Wednesday after a worker at a red robin restaurant came down with the virus.  Anyone who may have eaten  at the restaurant between May 8th and 16th is being asked to get tested.  It's estimated that this could affect as many as 5,000 people.

"It scared me because my husband has been sick and when I saw that a lot of the symptoms match the symptoms of that-- a red flag just went off and I'm like what do I do from here?" asked one customer who had eaten there recently.

A Springfield-Greene County Health Department worker says it was a big enough risk that they needed to notify the public and have some immunization clinics set up in the area to try to prevent any further spread of Hepatitis A. Health care workers have been giving out vaccinations at a clinic  set up in southeast Missouri.  At this point though officials are still trying to figure out where the food service worker may have contracted the Hepatitis A.
