MERS Virus Reported in Illinois

Updated:

The CDC says an Illinois man has the sometimes-deadly MERS virus. He contracted it after a business meeting with an Indiana man who already had it.

The Indiana man was diagnosed after a recent trip to Saudi Arabia.

We're told the man from here in Illinois did not require medical care, and is no longer sick, but health officials are still monitoring him.

MERS, or Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, was first diagnosed in the Arabian Peninsula in 2012. Since then, the illness has spread to 18 countries.
