Assistant Isaac Chew leaving Illinois for Marquette

Wait... what? Recently hired assistant Isaac Chew has seemingly decided to jump to his third program of the calender year.

If you remember correctly, Chew was the big splash when it came to new Illinois basketball coach John Groce's assistants. Chew had been a key recruiter of the Chicago area for Frank Haith down in Missouri last season. Prior to that, Chew had been a coach at Murray State with the Racers.

What effects will this have on the Illini's ability to recruit in the loaded Chicagoland area?

We don't yet know, but it's not likely to be a positive. Groce has ties to the region, but Chew was supposed to be the guy to help bring it all together.

That being said, this defection greatly annoys me. I know that in college sports coaches turn over more than an insomniac on Christmas Eve, but this is a bit ridiculous. How the hell do you join a program only to leave it when the next offer comes a mere month and a half later? I get that he has ties with Buzz Williams and Marquette is likely paying him far more than we did in the three or four paychecks he collected from our athletic department, but what a shitty thing to do. If this is any indication of how much Chew values integrity or loyalty, let him move to Milwaukee.

At the start of the month, Chew said the following in an interview with the Chicago Tribune:

The city is unforgiving. Trust and loyalty are big things with the city of Chicago. That's what I was bred on.

I kind of doubt that, Isaac.
