How should the Illini replace Isaac Chew?

In light of yesterday's news of the attempted assassination of the recruiting class of 2013 by the coward Isaac Chew, more than a few Illini fans have been left wondering what comes next. Where does John Groce go to attempt to salvage yet another blow to the once-esteemed program now in an apparent free fall?

Jalen James has officially re-opened his recruitment, thought the Illini still sit at the top of his list. What man can step in and get things back into proper order? What potential assistant could blow the rapidly closing Chicago pipelines wide open? If you're a fan of the Cure, you already know the answer.

John Groce and Mike Thomas should go after Simeon's Robert Smith hard and with an attache case full of money. As recently as two months ago, Smith seemed receptive to the idea of joining the Illini staff in a lesser capacity than his previous goal of head coach or bust. I would guess he realized no major college would straight up hire a high school coach with no collegiate coaching experience to run their program. And that's a good thing.

Would he still be so receptive despite having been passed over for both Groce and Chew? I don't know. But I do know that the man is a legend amongst high school basketballers in Chicago and with wunderkind Jabari Parker as his potential meal ticket to a collegiate gig, now is the time to strike. Smith has made a basketball factory out of Simeon and would have little trouble battling any assistant in the NCAA over recruits from the Second City. We just need to recruit him first.
