Illinois is taking steps to help its veterans land a job after service.
In Chicago, Governor Pat Quinn announced Illinois will be the first state to participate in a new program that coordinates public and private efforts to help veterans find work.
Created by General Electric, the "Get Skills to Work" coalition is meant to prepare returning military service men and women for high-paying jobs in manufacturing.
"We want to make sure that all branches of service and all of our service members and veterans, when they come home, get a J-O-B. And a good job, a job you can support your family on."
The "Get Skills to Work" coalition also includes some community colleges which will seek out empoyers who want to hire veterans and then provide the necessary training for the jobs.
