2 Collisions Send 5 People to the Hospital

A woman suffering from serious injuries after being involved in a car crash is involved in a 2nd accident when the ambulance rushing her to the hospital is involved in a wreck.
The initial accident which took place on Dirksen parkway in Springfield around 5:30 Friday. Firefighters had to cut the driver, Amanda Poole, from the car. Just minutes later an SUV collided with the ambulance racing to get her to the hospital. The drivers of both vehicles were taken to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the woman in the back of the ambulance had to wait for another ambulance to arrive to take her to the Emergency Room. Sangamon County Coroner Cinda Edwards reports that the woman involved in both crashes, 34-year-old Amanda Poole, was pronounced dead around midnight Friday night. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning.

Springfield police are investigating the crash.


Two people were sent to the hospital Friday afternoon after a truck collided with a car around 5:30pm on Dirksen Parkway between Cook Street and Clear Lake Avenue.

Firefighters who were called to the scene had to cut one of the drivers out of the car.

Springfield Fire Chief Ken Fustin tells us both victims have significant injuries, and one's injuries are life-threatening.

The driver of the truck and the passengers were not injured.
