Arson Investigations In Urbana

Updated: Tuesday, July 22 2014, 01:06 AM CDT

URBANA -- The Champaign County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating three arsons in just the last few months, The latest one occurred June 30th at 503 Macarthur drive in Urbana,

The Sheriff's Office says the fire was reported around 130am. It was an unoccupied home but a family was scheduled to move in, in the coming week.

Fire damage was estimated at $70,000 and right now the sheriff's office has no strong leads.

"Once the fire was put out, Fire Marshall from state police came and brought his k-9 with him. During that investigation, the k-9 alerted to different locations in the house, to an accelerant that had been used. So there's several points of origin for the fire. So the fire was set in a few different areas", says Champaign County Sheriff Investigator Nicki Bolt.

The Sheriff's Office also said they received information about a white truck in the area around the time the fire started but they're still working to confirm that.

I also asked the Sheriff's office about squatters or if this was possibly a case of insurance fraud. They said "no"!

They're asking for the community's help in this case. Please contact the Sheriff's office or Crime Stoppers if you have any information about this incident.
