Bikers Remind Drivers to Share the Road

Updated: Thursday, May 1 2014, 10:47 PM CDT
CENTRAL ILLINOIS -- As the weather improves more motorcyclists are hitting the road and
they want other riders and drivers to be aware so everyone can stay
safe.

Local bikers say this time of year can be the most
dangerous because drivers aren't used to seeing motorcycles after the
long winter.

They also say more debris is typically in the roads
this time of year making for hazardous conditions; all the more reason
to slow down and allow space between bikes and cars.

According to
the Illinois Department of Transportation there were 148 fatal
motorcycle accidents in 2012 and 78 percent of them were not wearing a
helmet.

Experts also say now is a great time to bring in your
bike for maintenance so you don't have to worry about it throughout the
summer.Bikers Remind Drivers to Share the Road
