Burglaries and Thefts up in Jacksonville

Updated: Tuesday, January 28 2014, 10:56 AM CST
The number of burglaries and thefts is up in Jacksonville. According to the annual report from the Jacksonville Police Department, there were 427 incidents of this type of crime in 2013 compared to 369 in 2012. Police say one small group of individuals is responsible for a large number of those burglaries and thefts.

The number of drug arrests in Jacksonville is up significantly from just a few years ago.

"We're keeping the pressure on the drug dealers. We try to keep them on their toes so they know that we're coming after them and that our guys are not letting up. They continue to try and rid the community of drugs," Jacksonville Police Chief Tony Grootens said.

One of the biggest seizures of crack cocaine in Jacksonville took place in January 2013. Police seized more than a kilo of the drug.

The city also saw its first murder in four years last July.Burglaries and Thefts up in Jacksonville
