Business Asks the City of Champaign for Tax Break Incentives

Updated: Thursday, April 24 2014, 01:08 AM CDT

CHAMPAIGN --- A video game development company is asking the city of Champaign for hundreds of thousands of dollars to fix its building. DS Volition may be forced to move if it can't find the money to make improvements at its current location.  The company has occupied the second and third floor of One Main Plaza for ten years. Its lease ends in may, but staff say their office is in need of major repair. That's why they want a tax break incentive of $200,000 from Champaign.

General Manager Dan Cermak explains, "What [they're] trying to do is get some help in terms of some of the infrastructure things we have to change here at one main because one main doesn't really have all the funds to do the things we need to do and we've been here for ten years and we've found over time that we need to make games differently than we used to". DS Volition has more than 220 employees and is known for creating games such as "Saints Run" and "Red Faction."
