City Approves Plan for Childhood Development Center

Updated: Friday, June 6 2014, 04:51 PM CDT

DANVILLE -- Officials say the community could use a new child development center and using a currently vacant building is an added bonus.

The Ceadar family owns a collision repair shop on Vermilion Street and wants to open up the childhood center in a vacant building right next door.

City officials say the building has been off the tax rolls for years so the redevelopment plan will be good for property values in the long term.

The building will need a new roof and other updates bringing the total cost to over half a million dollars but the city has agreed to spend over one-hundred thousand strictly from the TIF program.

Officials say the new facility will create around fifteen new jobs.

The center will focus on the arts and recreation for children three to six years old.

Officials say a lot of work needs to be done but the plan is to open the facility in September.
