Council Approval Hard to Get

Updated: Wednesday, June 25 2014, 10:44 AM CDT

There is one more thing the Monroe Street project is looking for Springfield city council approval for TIF money. That's Tax Increment Financing.

Because council previously green-lit the project many expected it to fly through Springfield Committee of the Whole Monday night, but that didn't happen.

"Why are we doing such a different deal for this project that we haven't done for every other project that we've done in the TIF? So--just questions," Ward 9 Alderman Steve Dove said.

Alderman Dove says there are two major issues with the ordinance: a 50-percent TIF re-imbursement (which he says was not part of the original agreement) and since the owner is using his own company the alderman wants written confirmation that the owner wouldn't directly profit from the TIF funding.

Aldermen moved the ordinance to next week's city council debate agenda.
