Updated: Monday, February 3 2014, 05:27 PM CST
With snow, freezing rain and ice on the way, road crews and emergency
officials are hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst.

The highway commissioner is preparing for the wintry mix that's already pelting the roads of Clear Lake Township had crews out early this morning pre-salting the areas that are dangerous. Like curves, hill
sides, intersections, railroad crossings. The township's highway commissioner Alex Lyons, says their equipment is ready to go and all crew members are on standby ready to tackle whatever mother nature decides to dish out.

"We've
got salt in our storage bins ready to go, we've got salt spreaders,
trucks, snow plows, we're prepared for it," Lyons said.

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency say they are ramping up their preparedness level and all state agencies are on call 24 hours a day.
