Decatur Police Move To New Station

Updated: Tuesday, June 3 2014, 04:35 PM CDT
DECATUR, ILL. -- Decatur Police are calling it one of their newest crime fighting tools and it comes with an added bonus, as they say it will last for years to come.

For the last eight months renovations have taken place at an old Decatur building on South Side Drive.

The police chief says it was a team effort completing the new station on time.

The additional space offers new technology which he believes will make officers more efficient.

"They have the ability and the skills, they just haven't had the space. So now we are not going to be waiting on space to do our function. We can multi-task and do several things at the same time without interruption to any of it," said Chief Todd Walker

Some of the new technology includes electronic police reports and manuals. The chief says  those allow officers to do more work out on the streets.Decatur Police Move To New Station
