DMT Creates Code of Conduct

Updated: Monday, February 17 2014, 01:21 PM CST
DANVILLE -- The Director of Danville Mass Transit says assaults on bus drivers in up nationwide so to keep this from happening in Danville he is proposing a rider code of conduct.

Director John Metzinger says the safety of the drivers and riders is a priority.

The issue arose when bus drivers became worried about threatening or violent behavior.

Drivers already undergo training for those types of scenarios but the director is pursuing further training and now DMT is working with employees and the community to create a riders code of conduct.

Metzinger says, "We'll be drafting a code and will be taking that to the public for their review and their input. Once this is developed we will disseminate the information to the public via all of our communication tools: the website, bus schedules, signage aboard the buses so that drivers can be aware of what behaviors they are expected to exhibit while on the bus."

DMT is also working with local leaders to create ordinances that would allow for stiffer punishment for code violators.

The community can also provide suggestions for the code of conduct by contacting DMT.DMT Creates Code of Conduct
