Dog Park Moving Forward Outside Washington Park

Updated: Friday, June 6 2014, 04:51 PM CDT
SPRINGFIELD -- The fight over a proposed dog park in Washington Park has a new twist.

Dog park proponent Dr. Karen Hoelzer has offered to work with the Park District to relocate the dog park to the new Barker Park development.

The Franklin Park Neighborhood Association is in full support of a dog park in their area.

The proposed space in Washington Park was met with a lot of pushback from local residents.

"The neighborhood is very happy right now. We just didn't want the smell and that intersection is a safety hazard. We just didn't think that was a good location," said Kriscnda Knox.

The land for Barker Park was donated by the Barker family with the intentions the land would be developed into a park. And, a dog park was actually included in the master plans for the land.

The Park District Board must now consider and approve the proposal.Dog Park Moving Forward Outside Washington Park
