Hoopeston Tire Facility Moves

Updated: Friday, February 21 2014, 11:26 AM CST

"J and R Used Tire Service" is planning to get back to business after a fire destroyed their Hoopeston plant last summer. The company is relocating to Danville and President Rodney Rogers wants to clear the air.

Last summer the facility burned to the ground over several days after a spark lit rubber dust. The goal is to educate people on what goes on inside his factories to help ease the minds of those in the community.

However, some residents have serious concerns about the business operating near them.

"I'm directly down wind from there, not a half mile away, so if anything happens like that, I will be evacuated, and I will be left with whatever mess I'll have to deal with plus he is right on the Vermilion River," says David Techtow of Danville.

But Rogers says an accident like the one in Hoopeston last year will not happen again.  Claiming nothing will be stockpiled and it will basically be an empty building at the close of business with very few tires if any in the building at the end of the  day.
