House Committee Passes Obama Library Proposal

Updated: Monday, April 21 2014, 01:30 PM CDT
A House committee today approved $100 million in state taxpayer money
for the construction of the Barack Obama Presidential Library in
Chicago.

But the lawmakers still need to figure out where they'll get the funds from.

Chicago
mayor Rahm Emanuel says the upfront money should be looked at as an
investment that would pay dividends well beyond the $100 million initial
cost.

Several Chicago sites, mostly on the city's south side,
are jockeying to become home to the library and museum. Hawaii and New
York are also vying for it.
