Ice Bucket Challenge for Coach

Updated: Friday, August 15 2014, 09:49 AM CDT

SPRINGFIELD -- A group of students are helping to raise awareness for A.L.S. While a local high school coach fights the disease. Steve Rockford is the longtime wrestling and football coach at Springfield's Southeast High School and has always helped out around the state fair.

Every year, his wrestling team would raise money by working in the barns, but that was before Rockford was diagnosed with A.L.S. in 2012. This year, in an effort to create awareness for A.L.S., the state fair held a 'Celebrity Harness Race' at the grandstand and asked Steve to take the reigns.

"We want to spread the awareness of A.L.S. and the horrible disease that it is.  Lou made his famous speech 75 years ago and they still haven't made any progress finding a cure for this thing."

Though Rockford is battling the disease head on, he did resign from his job at Southeast in January. So to raise money for Rockford, his wife and five children,  Primo Designs is selling t-shirts and half the proceeds go into a trust fund, for the kids.
