Local Armed Robbery Caught on Tape

Updated: Saturday, June 28 2014, 06:00 PM CDT

SPRINGFIELD -- A criminal act captured, but suspects are still at large.

The dramatic video of a late night armed robbery in Springfield.

Just before 10:00pm on June 18, two men stormed into the California Kitchen on North Ninth Street, running off with profits from inside 2 registers.

Newschannel at Nine's Jordan Abudayyeh shows us all of it, caught on tape.

The two suspects are seen on surveillance footage entering the California Kitchen restaurant, both armed.

They quickly jump over the counter and struggle with the register but demand the two employees help them open it, then head to the second register clearing out the cash.

"Two black males are suspects. They're both described as thin wearing hooded sweatshirts and dark colored pants. One had a lighter complexion with a t-shirt wrapped around his face, and the other one had the hooded portion of his sweatsshirt pulled very tightly on his face."

The suspects fled eastbound toward Tenth Street down an alley, right past where Kay Harrison has lived for 42 years. Although she didn't know the restaurant she lives right next door to was robbed, it doesn't surprise her.

"Try sitting on your porch, if you want to try it, you can just see the people that walk by and the trouble that's brewing a lot."

The robbery took place at 9:45pm, which is relatively early.

"They're very, very busy at night, after nine o'clock foot and car."

That's why Crimestoppers hopes someone saw something that can help lead to an arrest.

"Being a restaurant and it still being pretty early in the evening comparitively there's still a lot of business and a lot of foot traffic going on in the area so there's still a lot of information that can be acquired about this crime."

California Kitchen's owner is out of the country and the manager wouldn't do an interview without his permission. The manager can be seen here yelling after the robbers, but none of the employees fought back.

"The employees did exactly what they should do. They complied, they notified the police when they were in a postion of safety to do so."

Crimestoppers says it's important to catch these guys because if they did it once, they'll probably do it again.
