Heat Advisory for Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana

IL, TN, IN, KT (AP) -- A heat advisory remains in effect until 7:00pm CDT Saturday.
Temperatures will continue their heat up through the 90s each afternoon over the next several afternoons as high pressure aloft builds into and across the nation's midsection.
These temperatures will combine with rather muggy conditions to produce afternoon heat index values from 100 to 105 several days in a row. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
Precautionary/preparedness actions: A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors. Make sure outside pets have plenty of water.

More School Options for Gifford Students

Updated: Friday, June 20 2014, 11:20 AM CDT

GIFFORD -- PARENTS OF GIFFORD HIGH SCHOOLERS MIGHT HAVE ANOTHER CHOICE WHEN IT COMES TO WHICH HIGH SCHOOL THEIR KIDS CAN GO TO.

THE GIFFORD SCHOOL BOARD PLANS TO ADD AN 'ADVISORY REFERRENDUM' ON THE BALLOT THIS NOVEMBER...
ASKING WHAT THOSE LIVING IN GIFFORD THINK OF THE IDEA.
CURRENTLY, HIGH SCHOOLERS FROM GIFFORD GO TO RANTOUL HIGH SCHOOL...
THE REFERRENDUM WOULD ADD 'ARMSTRONG HIGH SCHOOL' AS ANOTHER CHOICE.
OFFICIALS TELL US -- PARENTS FROM GIFFORD ARE LOOKING FOR OPTIONS.

"Y'know those are the reasons... one's bigger one's smaller. Get a little bit more attention in one direction and the other direction might offer a few more programs and a few more opportunities. So it would be nice to offer a choice for those parents to go one direction or the other."

IF VOTERS IN GIFFORD DECIDE TO VOTE "YES" FOR THE REFERRENDUM...
THE CHOICE OF EITHER SCHOOL WOULDN'T BE ON THE TABLE UNTIL THE 2015 SCHOOL YEAR.
THE IDEA FOR THE REFERENDUM CAME FROM PARENTS ASKING THE SCHOOL BOARD WHETHER IT WAS POSSIBLE TO SEND THEIR KIDS TO A DIFFERENT HIGH SCHOOL.
