New Springfield Mayoral Candidate

A Springfield democrat with ties to a former Capital city mayor announces his run for a local office. Newschannel at Nine's Rebekah Thurston has the story.

Well Alicia, Jim Langfelder currently holds the position of Springfield city treasurer, but soon hopes to take over the executive role of mayor come April.

 Langfelder making the announcement today, on the 88th birthday of his father, former mayor Ossie Langfelder who held the office from '87 to '95. The current financial officer who's a native to Springfield says he's passionate about the city and wants the best for it's citizens, claiming he plans to practice an open and honest government.

But opponents in the 2015 race are quick to question his ability to run the city as chief.

"As your ext mayor i assure you that the mission and culture of city government will be openness, honesty and doing what is best for Springfield as our top priorities." said Jim Langfelder Mayoral candidate.

"its nice that jim is reminding us that his father was mayor but as a citizen, I'd like to know what jim has done to earn his father's office," said Paul Palazzolo Sangamon County Auditor.

Palazzolo also reminding citizens Langfelder was serving as pension administrator while now, those funds are $230 million in the red. He says that if he's elected he'll bring a fiscally responsible culture to the capital.
