Shooting Investigation in Urbana

Updated: Friday, August 22 2014, 09:33 AM CDT

URBANA -- New details tonight in the shooting investigation involving a homeless woman in Urbana.

Police say 22-year-old Jenyra Reeves is a longtime resident of Champaign-Urbana and was shot in the head by gunfire on July 30th near Hamilton on the park apartment complex.

Lt. Bryant Seraphin says he believes Reeves was intentionally shot but she was not specifically targeted.

He adds there have been other shooting incidents in the area in the past.

Police say Reeves was target for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"Her injuries are severe.  She has been downgraded from critical care but she indeed still is hospitalized and although her prognosis is sort of unknown she will probably always require some sort of assistance in daily living as she moves on."

The traumatic brain injury will likely affect her memory and emotions.

Reeves is also blind in one eye from the shooting and has very poor vision in the other eye.

Police are asking for your help. If you have any information, please call Urbana police or CrimeStoppers at 373-TIPS.
