Springfield Park District To Fix Broken Turbine

Updated: Tuesday, July 22 2014, 11:17 PM CDT
SPRINGFIELD -- Repairs are coming soon to an area in Southwind Park.

The
Springfield Park District is taking steps to fix a dysfunctional wind
turbine. Officials say right now, the turbine simply does not work.

The district is waiting to hear from companies regarding proposals for upgrading the turbine.

The
company that installed the original turbine is no longer in business,
so district officials may have to completely replace the turbine.

"We
have a strong partnership with the Springfield Parks Foundation to help
fund the repair costs of it, so we hope that bids will come in
favorable," said Derek Hares, executive director of Southwind Park.

The
cost to repair the turbine is unknown. The answer likely won't be known
until the district finished collecting proposals for the repairs.

All bids are expected to be in in a couple of weeks. The park hopes the repairs will be completed by December.Springfield Park District To Fix Broken Turbine
