Students Blind Sided By Pepper-Spray Attack

Updated: Thursday, June 19 2014, 11:47 PM CDT

CHAMPAIGN -- University of Illinois police officers are searching for answers to an odd attack from over this weekend.

Two students say they were talking near their mailbox when they were blind sided by a man who walked up to them and pepper sprayed their faces.

It happened on the 2100 block of S. Orchard St in Urbana around 7:45pm Saturday night.

Investigators say after the man sprayed them, he sped away in a red vehicle.

U of I police would like to hear from you, if you know anything about the incident.

"They did not say anything to him, he just walked up to them, sprayed them, got into his vehicle and left. We don't know if it was some type of initiation, if it was some type of uhhh, we really don't know why it happened right now it's just a senseless act of battery."

Police say if you are pepper sprayed, remember to flush your eyes with cold water right away and remove contacts, but don't get in the shower. That could spread the pepper spray causing irritation in other areas.
