UPDATE: Kincaid Mayor Makes Court Appearance

Updated: Monday, March 3 2014, 04:28 PM CST

The mayor of Kincaid is free on bond tonight, after spending the night in jail. This morning, he appeared before a Christian County judge on charges of violating an emergency order of protection and drug possession.

The Christian County Sheriff said they arrested Mayor Doug Thomas at work Thursday afternoon. Police said while they were processing Thomas, they found several Adderall pill son him--a drug he does not have a prescription for. Adderall is a powerful stimulant often used to treat people with attention deficit disorder.

As for the other charge, the sheriff's office refuses to identify the person who filed the protection order against the mayor--only that he violated it.

"He's not supposed to communicate with the individual or have any contact with the individual, either in person or through texting, telephone communications, or anything like that," Christian County Sheriff Bruce Kettelkamp said. "And that's what he was doing."

If convicted, Thomas could face several years behind bars.

We're told city officials are in the process of determining how to move forward should the mayor have to step down.

The mayor of Kincaid has been arrested. The arrest occurred this morning by Christian County sheriff's deputies.

Authorities tell us Doug Thomas sits behind bars in the Christian County Jail on preliminary charges of violating an emergency order of protection and possession of a controlled substance.

We'll have more on this story as details become available.
