YMCA Offers Schools Day Out Program for Kids

Updated: Thursday, February 6 2014, 03:36 PM CST
Most schools were closed Wednesday - a tough situation for working parents who don't have alternative child care.

With the large number of snow days already used this winter, the
Springfield YMCA is offering a school's day out program.

Drop-off begins at 7 a.m., and kids spend the day taking part in group play, arts and crafts, swimming, and more.

YMCA officials say they saw a need for the program, and expect more kids to participate if we continue to see brutal weather.

"One
of the things that necessitated a program like this is that a lot of
the after school programs that the schools run are in the schools, so
when the schools are closed, those spaces are closed. However, we are
open. So, it's a natural fit for us," said Jane Frech, director of
Marketing and
Development for the Springfield YMCA.

The fee for the School Day out Program at the Y is $25 for members, and $30 for the public. Pre-registration is not required. Visit the YMCA Facebook page or click here for more information. YMCA Offers Schools Day Out Program for Kids
