AC Energy High Usage Days

Updated: Thursday, June 19 2014, 11:23 AM CDT

You're not alone if you're running your ac a lot more to stay cool this week.

According to City Water, Light and Power (CWLP), energy use always goes up this time of year.

But utility leaders also say the demand grows the more consecutive hot days there are.

Just between Monday and today, daily energy use grew about 12%.

But CWLP says it's nowhere near too much to handle.

And it takes more than just high use to create a brownout.

"Generation outages either locally or nearby, or constraints on the transmission system. Brown - if we do brownouts, those generally come at the direction of the Midwest ISO, who monitor the grid and any kind of recommendations for conservative operations."

Still, CWLP customers should try and use appliances and AC conservatively when possible.
