Amtrak Timeliness Rates Decline

Updated: Monday, July 14 2014, 10:20 AM CDT

It looks like more Amtrak trains, are pulling into the station behind schedule.

According to the latest on-time report published by the company.

Overall, it's a drop of more than 12-percent in the last year. Only about a third of trains on the Texas Eagle Line, the line that runs through Springfield, were on time in the last month.

"I used to ride the Amtrak back and forth, from Springfield to Chicago, then Chicago to Springfield because my family's here," said Natasha McMillen, Chicago resident. "But it was late all the time, so I stopped taking it. It would take 5 or 6 hours and made too many stops. But now there's the Lincoln Express, it takes 3.5 hours to get here, which was nice."

Amtrak reps say a lot of its trains are late because it doesn't own the tracks they run on -- and the track, needs a lot of upgrades.
