Armed Stand-Off Comes To An End

Updated: Tuesday, July 22 2014, 11:55 PM CDT

An armed standoff at Lincoln Place Trailer Park in Sangamon

County, just outside of Riverton, is over. Riverton Police and the
Sangamon County Sheriff's Office spent hours at a mobile home on Oaklane
Road trying to convince a man with a gun to put the weapon down and
surrender to officers. Here's how Undersheriff Jack Campbell described
the incident.

"The first deputy on the scene identified the
suspect as having a weapon, and we immediately pulled back and set up a
perimeter around there," Campbell said.

The sheriff's office took the lead in the investigation. Their tactical response unit and hostage
negotiators were there, trying to talk with the man inside of the mobile home.

Residents weren't allowed to leave or enter the mobile home park as officers worked.

UPDATE: Lincoln Place Home, a Sangamon County mobile home park, is blocked off by officers. Riverton Police and Sangamon County Sheriff's Deputies are on-scene; they have been since at least 6:30 p.m. We've just learned that the sheriff's department is handling the situation, but there's no word on what exactly the situation is. Neighbors say there is a man armed with a gun, but police have not confirmed that information. Photojournalist Jon Christians, @illinoiscyclone on Twitter, is there at the scene.
