Child Support Enforcement

Updated: Monday, August 11 2014, 11:33 AM CDT

In tonight's Money Matters, almost $1.5 billion; that's how much the state Department of Healthcare and Family Services says it collected in child support in the last year.

The agency says this is the tenth straight year that more than a billion dollars was collected. It says most of the money is collected through income withholding.

The agency does use other methods like "freezing and seizing" bank accounts, to collect money owed.

It also asks the Department of Natural Resources to deny hunting and fishing licenses, to parents who fall behind on payments.

The agency has a website where parents can sign up for full enforcement services.
