Committee of the Whole Meeting

Updated: Wednesday, August 27 2014, 11:18 AM CDT

SPRINGFIELD -- A local group is asking Springfield City Council for $425,000 in TIF funds to renovate a building.
And, the first names surface in the search for a new City Council Coordinator.
Newschannel at Nine's Shantel Middleton has the update on Tuesday's Committee of the Whole meeting.

First let's talk about the money. That $425,000 in tax increment financing. It's actually for the upper level of a building on south 7th street.

Eck, Schafer, and Punke, an accounting firm is looking to buy the second story condo unit for $100,000.
To do that and then rehab the building will cost them about $1.75 million.
What they're looking for from city council is 24% of that.
It could be moved back to debate, but for now aldermen have moved it to next week's consent agenda.

"You saw the hoopla that happened over the map. We sat there for a year and a half and nobody did anything and then 90 days before the deadline, it was panic. ---so i just thought you know what, 'Let's just get the ball rolling'."

Alderman Frank Edwards suggesting a committee work on replacing City Council Coordinator Joe Davis.
Several --including Victoria Ringer at Downtown Springfield, inc. and ward 10 alderman Tim Griffin are interested in the job.

Davis leaves early next year. Aldermen will talk more about a committee to look for his replacement---next week.
