Updated: Sunday, June 1 2014, 12:32 AM CDT

UPDATE 10:00 PM: Police have arrested the man they say is responsible for the shooting of a Danville Police Officer on Friday night.  After a four hour stand-off, the man came out of the house of his own free will. The man is facing 2 warrants. One warrant is in connection to the shooting of the officer and the other is from the Department of Corrections. Once in custody the suspect was taken to the Public Safety Building in Danville.

DANVILLE --   A Danville police officer who was shot Friday night is expected to be released today from the hospital. Authorities say the officer was driving in the 200 block of Kentucky Avenue when he stopped his car to get out and talk with a man walking nearby.

According to police, the officer began to approach the individual, a white male with multiple tattoos, and that's when they say the man turned and shot at the officer. The officer was hit and fired back, but police don't know if the shooter was injured.

"The officer was gonna check with him about some other incidents, interview, quick interview and never even got an opportunity to say anything to the individual. He immediately starting firing at the officer," says Danville Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason.

Thomason says that after the shooting his office was flooded with calls from people with information. Today we spoke with neighbors who say they heard the shooting, but didn't want to talk about it on-camera. If you have any information on the suspect who is described as a white man 5-foot-9, with multiple tattoos call Danville Police.
