Deputies Confiscate Illegal Fireworks

Updated: Tuesday, July 8 2014, 04:25 PM CDT
SANGAMON COUNTY -- On Wednesday we rode around with law enforcement to catch fireworks stands operating illegally. Thursday, authorities returned to a stand that broke the law.

A vendor on Peoria Road sold bottle rockets to an undercover officer.

Sangamon County deputies confiscated the remaining fireworks Thursday that were considered illegal. That includes anything that shoots up into the air and explodes.

Some vendors are allowed to sell those types of fireworks as long as the buyer has a proper permit.

"Due to the fact that he sold last night to an undercover officer that has no commercial license, therefore he violates the statute and breaks the law," said Detective Mike Harth.

The case will be brought to the state's attorney who could file a misdemeanor charge against the vendor.

Another fireworks stand on Route 29 was shutdown Wednesday night because they didn't have the proper permit.Deputies Confiscate Illegal Fireworks
