Flooding Shuts Down Parts of Springfield Thursday Night

SPRINGFIELD -- Countless cars are under water and several area residents were stranded on city streets Thursday night.

According to the Village of Jerome President says that Iles between MacArthur and Lenox is shutdown for the rest of the night. A number of trees are also down in that area as well. - reported 9:30 p.m.

Veterans Parkway to I-72 West is flooded and about to be closed down. - Reported 9:45 p.m.

Dirksen Parkway and Ridge is impassable.

Highland and Lowell - Water starting to subside - Reported at 10:10 p.m.

Police have closed 6th Street at Wesley -Reported at 10:18 p.m.

16th Street just south of Ash is impassable - Reported 10:20 p.m.

I-72 in Springfield reports of the water flooding all 4 lanes - Reported 10:26p.m.

9th and South Grand Avenue in Springfield - Reported at 9:30 p.m.

Cook Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. - Reported at 9:30 p.m.

Greenbriar and Veterans Parkway impassable.
7th and 6th streets at Princeton impassable.
5th and Iles impassable.

Traffic on I-72 Westbound is being redirected to Route 4.

All viaducts closed until the sweepers can come in. - 11:04 p.m.

South Grand between 9th and 11th still closed and impassable - 11:03 p.m.

6th street at Edwards is all clear - 11:22 p.m.

Parts of Veterans Parkway remain closed and some traffic is being rerouted towards the Wabash exit. - 11:23p.m.

Barricades are being requested for various locations so stay alert. At this time it's unknown when roads will reopen.
