Less Traditional 4th of July Festivities

Updated: Friday, July 4 2014, 08:29 AM CDT

While the 4th of July will be filled with it's traditional parades, concerts and fireworks, many local families will have some other plans.

The Springfield Park District has affordable fun for both parents and children.

For a twist, officials at the district suggest checking out some exotic exhibits at the
Henson Robinson Zoo. They currently have penguins, bobcats and even spider monkeys.

Whether it's venturing into Southwind park or taking a bike ride through Rotary Park, there are over 34 public parks in springfield to choose from.
