Missing SIU Student Found Dead

Updated: Wednesday, February 19 2014, 11:43 AM CST

A franctic search for a missing Southern Illinois University student ending today with a campus in mourning and a family still searching for answers.

Carbondale police say they found the body of 19-year-old Pravin Varughese just before ten this morning in a wooded area.

The sophomore had been missing since last Wednesday, when he went to a party with a cousin and a roommate.

"We deployed every available resource to locate Pravin," says Chief Jody O'Guinn of the Carbondale Police Department.

Carbondale police announced the latest details from their investigation. They say Pravin Varughese left the house party last week with someone he met that night. Following a dispute, Pravin exited the vehicle on the 1400 block of E Main Street and fled into the wooded area," says Chief O'Guinn.

They learned this after that acquaintance came forward Monday night. Tuesday morning police began searching the woods off of Highway 13. Behind Buffalo Wild Wings and Kohls. That's where they found the 19 year old's body.

"There were no obvious signs of trauma that would be caused by something other, any kind of suspicious means or altercation."

The Varughese family came to the wooded area today, trying to grieve as their search for Pravin has turned into a nightmare.

"There is something they have to solve. This is not like him."

"We just miss him so much we don't feel he did this on his own, we feel like someone else is involved."
