Officer Shot, Suspect Arrested

Updated: Monday, June 2 2014, 10:34 PM CDT

UPDATED -- The sixteen year veteran Danville police officer who was shot on Friday was released from the hospital Saturday afternoon and is said to be in good condition.

DANVILLE -- After a nearly four-hour standoff, authorities arrested a Ridgefarm man suspected of shooting a Danville officer Friday evening.

Police identified 23-year-old Michael C. Rouse as a possible suspect early Saturday morning. Around 6 p.m. Rouse was spotted by a Danville officer on Cannon street. The suspect then ran into a home at 2609 1/2 Cannon Street where he remained for several hours.

Danville Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said there were others inside the house, but the suspect allowed them to leave.

Officers say it was not a hostage situation.

Shortly after they were released, the suspect then exited the home of his own free will. That's when he was placed into police custody around 9:15 p.m. and taken to the Danville Public Safety Building.

Thomason confirmed that warrants had been issued for the suspect from the
Illinois Department of Corrections for Absence without Authorization, no bond and from Vermilion County for Attempted First Degree Murder to a Peace Officer.

No one was injured during the arrest. Rouse's bond is set at $5 million.
