Pension Saga Continues in Springfield

Updated: Friday, August 29 2014, 02:49 PM CDT
An Illinois labor union group is pushing for a faster ruling on the constitutionality of a new Illinois pension law.

"We Are One" filed a motion in Sangamon county court Thursday asking the court to consider an earlier ruling made by the Illinois Supreme Court.
They say that July decision confirms that the state's pension protection clause is absolute. Representatives of the unions believe a decision in their favor is inevitable.

"The defense that the state has, the only defense the state has, that we're broke, is not a defense. We should close this case up quickly rather than spend months listening to actuaries and accountants and economists." said Don Craven, Attorney for ISEA-R.

The law in question was passed by the legislature in December. It reduces cost of living increases for pensions.Pension Saga Continues in Springfield
