Quinn Accused of "Squirreling Away" Your Tax Dollars

Updated: Wednesday, August 13 2014, 10:36 AM CDT

Illinois Republicans urging Governor Pat Quinn to be more forthcoming about how millions of your tax dollars are being spent. They are calling out Quinn. Specifically, those Republicans are asking where exactly 20-million of your tax dollars are being spent. At a news conference in Chicago Monday Republicans said Quinn and Illinois General Assembly Democrats put $27-million in the Department of Labor's budget this year. Last year it was just $7-million. The extra money they say being used at Quinn's disposal.

"During the appropriation's process we could not get any information regarding what that money was going to be used for or what safeguards were in place to make sure that it was appropriately spent," Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno said.

"Well, they're just plain wrong and they know it, you know? And they should stop playing politics. It's very important for at-risk young people that we do have programs in our state," Governor Pat Quinn said responding to the allegations.

Quinn made those remarks at the Illinois State Fair Tuesday. He says bottom line the money is being appropriately spent, and he is proud to back a program like the NRI which helps kids who are desperately in need. For now this debate is to be continued.
